Books, journals, and studies

I used to keep a journal in art school. It was a mix of private written entries, poems, photographs, and small artworks. I'm grateful to early mentors like Minneapolis poet Phebe Hanson for encouraging journal-keeping. I started journaling again a few years ago, following open heart surgery. The one I have right now is nearing its end; it's so full that it doesn't close properly, and it has all these threads hanging over the edge from projects inside. People wonder what it is, but I don't share much because it holds secrets and personal thoughts. This feels like my old authentic creative self - poor, wearing old jeans and converse, carrying my art journal... And that makes me happy.
